Hot Water Tank Repair
There are various things that can go wrong with a water heater from time to time. While some issues can be fixed by you, chances are that you will require professional help with the other problems. 2 Ply Plumbing is always happy to help you with your plumbing needs.
If your water isn’t hot enough…
If you feel like the water isn’t hot for long enough, there might be a few things you can check. Inspect the thermostat of the water heater. Sometimes, it can be something as easy as adjusting the level of heat so that the water becomes hotter.
If you have had trouble with the supply of hot water for almost as long as you have had the heater, then it could be that the tank of the water heater may not be large enough to meet your hot water needs.
Another possibility could be that the dip tube that supplies water into the tank could have developed a crack or could be broken. Or the heating element (wiring in case of the electric unit or burner in case of the gas unit), could be malfunctioning. 2 Ply plumbing can help you fix that right away.
If your water is very hot…
In case the water is very hot, yet again, check the thermostat of the water heater. Chances are that it is set to high heat. If the thermostat is not too high, then in order to run a test, you may want to put a mark on the current position, and then dial it to a cooler temperature. Wait for some hours. If the temperature of the water is still as hot as earlier (prior to adjusting the thermostat) then it is clear that the thermostat is not working properly.
In some cases, it so happens that the water that comes out the faucets is extremely hot and even steams. This happens when the water heater does not shut off at the programmed temperature. It is caused when the relief valve that takes care of the temperature-pressure is malfunctioning. 2 Ply plumbing can easily replace this for you.
If your water takes time to get heated…
At times, the water takes a long time to get heated, after the tank has been emptied. This happens when either heating element is itself is struggling to receive sufficient power supply or the heating element has malfunctioned and needs replacing. If you experience slow heating of water, it can, in some cases be an indication of a serious problem.
There can be a build-up of rust or sediment in the water tank. When the rust or sediment smothers or insulates the heating element, the element is forced to work harder, causing heat and pressure build up which may lead to rupture. Do not ignore these signs and stall them for tending later. Call 2 Ply Plumbing and save yourself from getting into a major expense by tackling the problem at the onset.
If your water smells…
If you notice that the water is rust coloured, and gives off an unusual smell, then first try to identify if the problem lies with the heater or the water source. To check this, run the cold water tap. If the cold water is rust coloured and smells as well, then it is a problem with the water source. If the cold water is clear and free of smell, then the problem is with the water heater.
A high concentration of minerals and/or sulfates in the tank can affect the color, smell, and taste of water. This water can be harmful if ingested. A DIY quick fix is to flush the tank and refill it. If the problem still persists, you can get a professional from 2 Ply Plumbing to help you replace or repair the anode rod inside the water heaters tank.
If your tank is leaking…
Leaky water tanks can cause more damage than what appears on the surface. The water heater may have irrevocably corroded from within. A leak in the water tank can lead to water flowing through the flooring and seeping into the walls. This brings with it the risk of extensive damage to the property due to water and mold. In such cases, the best way to fix the water heater is to replace it. If you suspect your water heater is not working as it ideally should, then the best course of action would be to call in 2 Ply Plumbing, immediately.
